October Updates

posted Oct 21, 2011 1:27 PM by CSA President

Hi everyone,

Just a few updates to send through.

1. The CSA will be holding a BBQ Fundraiser this weekend during the Open House. If you would like to volunteer to help out, please email me at kayle.clark@ualberta.ca so that we know about how many people we'll have.

2. We're still looking for members to join our Paintball team for the Campus Ministry Paintball Tournament. It takes place on Saturday November 26th, $40 per person. Transportation and equipment are provided, the event runs from about 11 to 4:30 (that's when the bus leaves from and returns to the University). Again, please email me if you're interested at kayle.clark@ualberta.ca. We have 6 people so far and need 10, so the first ones to get me their name and student ID will be the ones on the team.

3. Kateri House is hosting Sardines tomorrow, October 21st at 8pm outside of St. Joseph's College. Come out for some great fun!

4. Theology of the Body continues to run this Sunday, October 23rd at 6:30 at the St. Joseph's Basilica Parish Hall.

5. Campus Ministry is hosting a Hockey Night on Wednesday, October 26th! Oil Kings vs. Everett Silvertips. Pre-registration is REQUIRED. Please contact Fr. Matthew: mdurham@ualberta.ca.

6. Don't forget to check out the Lectio Divina, which happens each Tuesday at 4:30, in the downstairs seminar room in St. Joes. Lectio Divina is a way of praying with scripture. Each week, the group looks at the readings for the coming Sunday.

And the one last announcement is a bit of a preview. The CSA is tentatively planning another Christmas Dinner/Dance for December 3rd after the success of last year's event. So, make sure to clear your calendars! Food and prices will be announced soon, so stay tuned!

Also, as an addendum to the above which was sent out as part of the email update, the Archdiocese is also hosting an Advent Retreat for young adults on Saturday, December 3rd from 12:30-4pm at St. Charles Parish in North Edmonton. Archbishop Smith will be leading the retreat.

God Bless!

Happy 2011!

posted Jan 6, 2011 7:53 PM by CSA Secretary

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone! Just a few important updates.

1. This will serve as notice to the members of the CSA that Joseph, our President, and Jessica, our Social Convener, have resigned from the Executive. On behalf of myself, Dave, Adam, and all the CSA I want to thank Joseph and Jessica for their service to the CSA and I pray that God will bless their future endeavours.

As per the Constitution, there will be a by-election held at the next CSA event for these positions. Any member of the Club is ordinarily welcomed to run, but due to SU restrictions only SU Members (those who have paid SU dues) are eligible to be elected for these positions. You must be at the meeting or contact a current Executive member at least 1 day prior to the meeting to be nominated for a position. For full details, see the Constitution.

2. The next event will be on Monday, January 17th and will be a Pizza Party! The election will be held prior to the starting of the event. The event will start around 5ish and will continue as long as people want it to.

3. The Point is back on Friday January 14th at 7:30. See their website <http://thepointonline.ca/events> for more details.

God Bless!

The Semi-Formal is happening this Saturday, December 4th in the Newman Centre, and the information as always is on Facebook <http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=170043639687098&ref=ts>.

The doors open at 5:30, with dinner served at 6:00. It's $20, and that gets you the dinner and the dance.

But, if you just want to come for just the dance it starts at 7:30 and the cost is only $7! We hope to see everyone there!

The Last Hurrah of 2010

posted Nov 22, 2010 12:45 PM by CSA Secretary

Hey everyone. This will probably be the last newsletter of this semester, but that doesn't mean that there isn't anything else happening! Remember to always check the website for upcoming great events.

1. Golden 20s-Dinner and Dance
The CSA will be hosting a 20s themed diner and dance on Saturday December 4th (not a coffee house as was previously said). Come out for what promised to be a swingin' time! Tickets are $20 or $25 at the door. The doors open at 5:30 with dinner at 6:00. Ticket's will be sold after 9pm Mass this Sunday, or contact a CSA executive member, or contact Joseph directly (contact info on the Facebook page).

See the Facebook page for all the details <http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=170043639687098>

2. Campus Ministry will be hosting a Card Night this Wednesday November 24th at 7pm. On Wednesday December 1st and 8th there will be Scripture Talks on the Infancy Narratives hosted by Fr. Glenn.

3. At the recent CSA Executive meeting, an important decision was made on where the group will be going in the future. We have decided that in the coming semester there will be no more Speaker Nights, and instead we will be promoting an as-yet unannounced speaker series Campus Ministry will be holding.

Instead, the 3rd Friday will have either another social even or another event of interest to the CSA. The CSA will be discussing ideas for events for the upcoming semester at our next meeting on Monday December 6th at 5:15pm. We encourage all members to come out or email us with your ideas.

Remember, the latest information is always found on our website, www.uofacsa.com

God Bless!

2. Seeds
Just a reminder, the last Seeds talk is this *Tuesday* November 9th at 7:00 in the Chapel. The topic for the last talk is What is God’s will for me? See the website for details, past talks, and reflections <http://www.ualberta.ca/~stjoseph/campusministry/SEEDS.html>.

The CSA will be having a twofer for a speaker event on November 19th. First, Peter van Kampen, from Our Lady of Victory Camp and parish youth leader in Wetaskiwin, will be speaking on Relational Ministry at 4:00 in the St. Joseph College Faculty Lounge. We'll start with some Praise and Worship followed by the talk any questions.

Then, for anyone interested, we'll be heading off to the Telus World of Science to see José G. Funes, SJ, the head of the Vatican Observatory and a Scientific Advisor to Pope Benedict, and Dr. Neil Comins, a professor of physics and astronomy from the University of Maine, present a talk entitled "Astrobiology—Are We Alone in the Universe?".
The talk starts at 8pm, and we'll be taking the 128 Bus from the U of A to Westmount, then walking to the Telus World of Science. Tickets are $11.75 for students, and can be purchased at Tix on the Square <http://www.tixonthesquare.ca/event/detail/2413/>, or by giving one of us money and having us purchase it for you. We're going to try and go as a group this time for anyone interested. We'll meet at St. Joseph's Student Lounge around 6:45-7ish and take the LRT downtown.

5. Coffee House
The CSA's Coffee House will be Saturday December 4th at 7:00pm. We're starting to look for people who would to be in the Coffee House with an act, or a skit, or a music number, or anything interesting. 6. Rise Up
Lastly, CCO (Catholic Christian Outreach) will be having their annual Christmas break conference called Rise Up from December 28th to January 1st. It promises to be a super time of learning, fellowship, and prayer and ends with a banquet and dance on New Year's Eve! Several CSA members (such as myself) have already decided to attend! The early bird deadline for registration is this Monday, November 8th.

Events and Ideas

posted Oct 25, 2010 2:44 PM by CSA Secretary   [ updated Oct 26, 2010 4:05 PM ]

Hey Everyone,

We've got some events coming up soon to tell you about.

1. But first, we'll be planning for next semester soon, and the CSA Executive wants to know what you guys want to do! We don't organize these speakers and events for ourselves, we organize them for the members of the group. So, send us an email, Facebook message, talk to us, or whatever with your ideas. So far, next semester ideas include a snow event (such as sledding or something) and Easter Egg panting.

Also, some members have asked about possibly doing a weekly email with all interesting events each week. Currently we have that on the front page of our website, but if you'd like to see a change to that, then likewise contact us.

Drop an email to secretary.uofacsa@gmail.com if you've got an idea.

2. Our next social event will be next week and will be a Paper Boat Drop, next Friday November 5th at 6pm. We'll meet in the St. Joseph College Lounge and head to wherever we're going from then. The idea like darts, but with paper boats and several floors up. Check out the Facebook group later this week for more details.

3. Seeds continues this week with the topic being "How to Forgive". Wednesday in the Chapel at 7:00pm

4. The St. Joseph's College Gala is this Saturday, October 30th at 7pm at The Sutton Place Hotel. See the St. Joseph's Website <http://www.ualberta.ca/~stjoseph/development/events.html> for more details.

God Bless!
